Garden Question?
I'm growing some plants (garden bean Kentucky Wonder Pole Snap) and I accidently broke some of the stems. I heard that some plants u can put them in water and they'll grow roots. Does that work with this particular plant & if not is there anyway I can save it? Thanks.
Answer:
Don't worry about breaking some stems off your beans. What is left in the ground on the root base will send off new shorts. Be sure to keep them watered every day or so in order that they do not dry out. Dry roots means dead plants.
With the stems that you have snapped off, take off most of the leaves all except the baby ones at the top of the shoot..
Cut the stem so as it is only ten or 12 cm long. Use a stick to poke a hole 4 or 5 cm deep in the ground and insert the stem,or cutting as we would call it now. Push the soil in over it and press down with your fingers. Give it a good watering straightway so as to wet the ground. With a little bit of luck you should be getting some healthy new plants. Enjoy them.
